Australia vs. India, Day 1 in 2008
DAY 1 STUMPS: Well, the Indians missed a few tricks yet again. They started off on a high in this battle to stay alive in this series and pegged back the Aussies effectively enough to gain the driver’s seat. Look at the scores in the end and one would feel that this scorecard doesn’t belong to this game. The agelong problem of the Indians continued as they failed to deliver the knock out punch after having the opponents by the scruff of their neck. Lady luck didn’t support the visitors as some umpiring errors proved to be really fatal. The Australians were reeling on 134/6 at one stage but after that a couple of brilliant knocks from Hogg and Symonds respectively resurrected the Aussie innings. The bowling seemed to lack the firepower when the Australians dictated terms and in the end, it’s the home side which is on top at the moment. The Indians would be looking forward to come back tomorrow and rattle the remainder of the batting order as soon as they possibly can but the Australians would certainly provide them with a lot of stiff resistance. Do join us tomorrow for the second day’s play. Till then from all of us here in the comm box, it is good bye and good day. Adios…
With that, it is Stumps on Day 1!
88.6 Ganguly to Lee, no run, good length delivery outside the off stump, curving in and swinging away from the right hander sharply, Lee comes on the frontfoot and lifts his bat and lets it go
88.5 Ganguly to Lee, no run, way outside off, left alone to the keeper
88.4 Ganguly to Lee, no run, fuller length delivery on the stumps, swinging into the right hander a trifle, Lee shows the full face of the bat and drives it straight to the fielder at mid on
88.3 Ganguly to Lee, no run, fuller length delivery on the stumps, Lee shows the full face of the bat and plays it straight back to the bowler
88.2 Ganguly to Lee, no run, good length delivery outside the off stump, angling into the right hander, Lee comes on the frontfoot and drives it straight to the fielder at short cover
88.1 Ganguly to Symonds, 1 run, good length delivery on the middle and leg, drifting in, Symonds closes the face of the bat and flicks it to mid wicket for a single
87.6 Harbhajan to Lee, no run, Harbhajan comes round the wicket to the right hander now, flighted delivery on the leg, spins down the leg side, Lee comes on the frontfoot and looks to defend it, misses
87.5 Harbhajan to Lee, no run, Lee defends a flighted delivery straight down the pitch on that occasion
87.4 Harbhajan to Lee, no run, flattish delivery outside the off stump, Lee comes on the frontfoot and looks to go for the crashing cover drive, inside edge and it goes through the legs of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, good effort by Rahul Dravid to stop the ball from hitting the helmet! close shave for Lee again
87.3 Harbhajan to Lee, no run, full and straight, right up there in the blockhole, Lee shows the full face of the bat and defends it straight back to the bowler
87.2 Harbhajan to Symonds, 1 run, back of a length delivery on the middle and leg, drifting into the pads, Symonds closes the face of the bat and glances it to backward square leg for a single again
87.1 Harbhajan to Lee, 1 run, delivery looped up outside the off stump, spins back into the right hander, Lee shows the full face of the bat and plays it back to the bowler, good half stop but they scamper through for a quick single
Harbhajan Singh is back into the attack
86.6 Ganguly to Lee, 3 runs, fuller length delivery on the middle and leg, jabs back into the right hander sharply, exagerrated movement for Ganguly, Lee closes the face of the bat and whips it to deep square leg for three runs, Rahul Dravid gives it a chase and pulls it back within the ropes!
